My son has just the right age. They learn to add and subtract numbers leq 20.

His workbook has some easy but nice visualizations which also intend to teach 
commutative law or divide a number into 2 parts like 
10 = 8+2 and also 10 = 3+7

There are also half open boxes and you know there are 7 pieces (marbles eg.) 
in it, but you can only see 3, so 4 mus be hidden by the cover.

For young kids learning these basic tasks some graphical visualization is a 
must, imho!
