I would be very happy to have someone working on the docs. :)
And also to answer all the questions you have.

Carsten Niehaus <cniehaus@gmx.de> did do some work on it in the past but I 
think he did not look at it for quite a long time.
Rich Hughes <invisibastard@wowway.com> wanted to take over but I don't 
remember if he really did do anything.
