Hi!
  Some more investigation:
  1) The following I found in my .xsession-errors:
     kio (KLauncher): KLauncher: Got exec_blind('--noxft', ...)
     kdeinit: PID 10544 terminated.
     kdeinit: Got EXEC_NEW '--noxft' from launcher.
     library=--noxft.la: No file names --noxft.la found in paths.
  2) Until now, I invoked konsole by its icon in the panel, just inserting --noxft
     after the command name in its properties. I tried to move this option to various
     other places in the cmdline - using the icon always worked, sm never worked.
  3) When I start konsole without this option, its session is restored OK.
