On GUADEC the GNOME developers said they want to use aRts for GNOME 2. Why 
build another one if there is already one - and a good one, too.

And btw, aRts is a lot more than only a soundserver. It's a complete "modular 
analog synthesizer". aRts adds a whole lot new stuff to only being a 
soundserver. For example it can also do the decoding of mp3s using mpeglib 
(or whatever lib you write a PlayObject for).
