Hi,

Thank you for taking over development of KWinTV. I was thinking about
doing it, but I'm glad someone much more experienced step forward
before me.

Well, it doesn't work for me. I use Red Hat 7.1 with stock kernel and
Nvidia drivers for TNT and it just core dumps before it even comes up.
The reason for it is that it tries to open device /dev/video, which is
actualy a directory.

I can start it with option -r /dev/video0, but it doesn't behave well
after that either. Old configuration doesn't seem to work and wizard
doesn't find any channel.

Mouse behaves very strangely over kwintv window. Actually, it looked
like using a desktop in desktop.

Exiting results in core dump as well.

I'm sorry to post this here, but I have no idea where else to do it.
Kde's bugs.kde.org don't list kde2.2 yet, I used general rpm package
(not listed in bugs.kde.org) and if I use bug report option in the
program, it implies that the bug report will go to the original
maintainer, who obviously can't be reached.

Btw, what are benefits of this new format?

As far as I know, kwintv was xawtv port to KDE1. And then it was ported
to KDE2. This certainly didn't result in optimised code. Also, it
should have support for v4l and v4l2, but I'm not completely sure about
this.

I agree it makes sense to drop KDE1 support. I wonder what would be the
best way to continue? To port a more recent version of Xawtv (which I
was supposed to believe is more advanced) or start a fresh. I know that
right now I sadly lack time for either of this options. I just finished
my civil service and there's a ton of work waiting for me.

However, I do hope to become useful in October, when I should finally
have some spare time. I'm sorry I can't help you sooner.

Regards,

	Marko
