My ideas for graphical installation:

First off - we need to be working alongside GNOME with this
issue. Graphical install is important for the greater acceptance
of Linux. Please, don't argue this point. A great deal of
people use the GUI for ALL of their tasks. Installing an
application should not require going to the command line (unless
you want to).

Also, we should be talking to the RPM and DPKG people so
that their packages are compatible with a GUI installer.
This way the package format can be extended to
deal with configuration through a GUI.

As the LSB becomes more accepted developers
can create their own RPMs or DPKGs with
associated images (that should be displayed
during the install wizard) and configuration
options.

Then we can make RPM and DPKG mimetypes
so that people can simply click on a package
and the wizard will be launched.

Maybe we should create a sourceforge project
for graphical installation. This way it can be
independent of GNOME/KDE/RedHat/Debian.
Everyone can get involved.

What do you think?
