All libraries which are to be dlopen'ed must be built using the (libtool) 
flag. At least the info page says so, although normally a gcc -shared could 
be enough. But better use it.

Yes. KDE_PLUGIN is declared in admin/acinclude.m4.in:
KDE_PLUGIN=-avoid-version -module -no-undefined \$(KDE_RPATH)"
