Hi,

I tried to open images over ftp with kpaint. The application crashed. I 
already filed a bug. Then I investigated the code a bit an located the 
problem in kpaint.cpp in line 565:

QString tmpname = tmpFile->name();

I replaced the line with:

QString tmpname = newTmpFile->name();

and loading worked. I am relatively new to kde-programming and this fix is 
just my guess. If someone has a better solution feel free to post it but 
obviously it works and should be checked in the CVS.
