Well, te tell you my experience with those keys: I always used the + - keys 
on the keypad for navigating through my unread mails in kmail, however after 
the meta key stuff was committed to CVS it won't work anymore (shift 
+(keypad) does work though). Also, I'm not able to select any other default 
keybindings than the one with the 4 modifiers (which I still don't know how 
to use properly). I did remove some relevant (at least, I thought so) parts 
from my kdeglobals config file, but to no success.
