you need to update your desktop with the rmb menu command refresh
desktop  I think. KDesktop doesn't monitor what you're doing on the
commandline so you need to trigger an update. That is also why you get
the error described below as the file doesn't exist in that case
anymore. Triggering a timer to refresh the desktop's icons is not worth
it to check if everything is still in place.
