OK, so that's the 4th name I've heard for this idiom. Others are compile 
firewall, cheshire cat idiom, and pimple idiom (for "private implementation").

I recall a post from James Kanze on c.l.c++.moderated where he was saying 
that this was the only idiom for which everyone had a different name. :-)
