Hi

You might consider building everything in a separate directory say /opt/kde-dev. Put
your "production" kde in a directory called say /opt/kde2.1 or whatever. Then use a
softlink to switch the directory to be used by changing the softlink.  So /opt/kde
would point to /opt/kde for normal use (your wife) and for development use you
change the link to for /opt/kde to /opt/kde-dev.

You could put this in your login scripts so it sets this automagically. For example,
when your wife logs in the link is set to point to /opt/kde2.1 and when you log in
it asks you if you want the development version or the production version.
