No, there are platforms (Tom's OSF is one of them), where DSO's _need_ to
be called libxxx.  Ergo, there may not be xxx.la and libxxx.la in a
complete KDE system, as both may end up in libxxx.so, which clashes.  Not
everything is Linux or ELF.
