Hum, what about those of us that don't show the entries in the task bar.
I never have and don't plan to.  It would be nice to just have the equiv.
to what Winblows/Mac have.  It has always been quite usefull to me.
This sounds way to complex when all that is needed is an indication
that the user has started something and it is still busy getting started.
And again this should be at the users focus, normally the cursor.  The
simplest seems the best, the spinning gear following the cursor until
the app is started (whatever that means) just like what is shown in the
taskbar.
