	Hi..
First of all I want to thank evey Konqueror developer out there for
doing such a impressive job. I think there is one thing that remains
unsolved so far : the speed that a konqueror (with filemanagement
profile)shows up. After a clean reboot konqueror startsup in 3 seconds. If I
have some compilation going on, it starts in about 6 seconds. IMHO that's a
bit too much, even It's still better than Nautilus , but it's certainly worse
that Windows Explorer.
One of the things I hear is that Windows Explorer is loading all the
libraries on startup, and that's a bad thing for many users. But shouldn't
you ask somehow the users if they want such a thing ? I personally wouldn't
mind. I have many Windows users playing around with my Linux box and all of
them were complaining with the speed of startup. Maybe it's because poor
Linux cacheing, maybe I have little memory, maybe the icons should be kept in
memory , I don't know.. but that still remains a issue for me. Maybe someone
could tell me how to prevent Linux from releasing the memory used by
Konqueror or something :). I don't espect for Konqui to startup as fast as
Microsoft Explorer due to a more complex technology, but still, I think that
some optimisations could be made. What do you say ?
I'm sorry for such a long message, but I want to open a internet cafe with
30 computers (K6-2) running Linux and KDE 2.2 and I'm not sure that KDE can
compete with Windows98 in terms of speed on low-end computers. Any feedback
would be greatly apreciated :)
 PS. I have a 600 Mhz Athlon, 128 SDRAM-PC133, Abit KA7, Quantum Fireball
(5400 rpm) + UDMA66, ResierFS, KDE from CVS, Redhat 7.0 with glibc 2.2.2 and
gcc 2.96-79, linux 2.4.4, NVidia + AA Fonts.
