don't commit this - it is way too specific for your system. it breakes
for me, too, and an "#ifdef linux" won't work (it probably depends on the 
glibc version, not on the os directly).
i already proposed some solutions, but nobody felt like commenting on
it:
- make a configure check - i can take care of this
- define the constants by hand to something useful
  (something like "__attribute__ (unused)", but i don't know exactly).

i prefer the second version. i'll check it out, if nobody has a better
idea.
