Ok, it looks like the x and y values are increasing by 3 each time it makes a 
configure request.

I am still uncertain why it makes so many requests, but I think it has to do 
with the IBM jdk, because it works fine with blackdown.  If you know what the 
problem is exactly, I can submit a bug report to ibm.
