I brought the problem with thread deletion to the attention of the kmail
developers quite some time ago. I was told that they didn't think it was
a problem, and if I just deleted each thread "from the bottom" I
wouldn't get the shattering effect you describe. I didn't really find
that to be a good solution, but I couldn't convince them.

I have moved back to Messenger for a different reason, though -- IMAP
support.

I wish I had the programming skills to contribute. Seems like all I do
is complain about missing features. :) Sorry, but I do what I can.
