I don't know what you're doing differently, but it takes less than a second 
to launch kwrite here, and less than 2 seconds to launch konq... hrmmm, I'm 
starting them from the Run Dialog, maybe that makes a difference.  Nope, just 
the same from kicker.

What version of kde do you have, what's you system, etc.  That may help us 
diagnose the bottleneck on your particular system.
