Does anyone has a solution for this? I either want to have a test that checks 
whether I can link to res_init() without any additional libs so that I can 
disable this call on solaris, or maybe we should link conditionally(?) link 
libkdecore to libresolv.

As a workaround you can remove all calls to res_init from the file ksock.cpp
without losing any critical functionality.
