| I also run KDE on some RedHat 7.0 systems and do experience kind of
| random crashes especially in kmail and konqueror. Nearly all backtraces
| end up in pthread though. I think this indicates more a qt
| comiling/packaging problem than a KDE failure. Nevertheless what people
| think of KDE will be what they see when installing rpm packages - if it
| crashes => KDE is shit. It does not matter whose fault it actually was.
| This leads to the question whether there should be a not only a KDE beta
| test phase but also a more extened "beta" test of the packages software?
Mandrake makes *continuos* package update.
Practically speaking, you can upgrade to KDE 2.1 CVS, may be, with 2-3 days
delay.
Let me quote here mail from Chris Molnar concerning this:

To be 100% precise, it is Chris Molnar's initiative [thanks, Chris!]. These
build are *unsupported* by Mandrakesoft, for some reason.
But, I prefer unsupported *working* binary packages instead of *supported,
non-working* . Hope other people share this vision with me.
I also have seen that many problems KDE inherits from X.
X is very limited on fonts. You can't have good view in KDE without TrueType
fonts installed from Windows. It's a pity, but it's reality.
I would like also to recommend here to install KDE/Linux with English
language first, then update to you normal language setting.
Then you will blaim only localization, not KDE itself.
I can tell you here then even very nice Linux Mandrake 7.2 with KDE2
*standard* crashes if you install it with Russian language option. Just
because of fonts ...

Do you have Arial font installed? Just test it!
