I'm not 100% sure about this being true in general, but when i once tried to 
compile some code using STL under windows (VC5.0), it did not work because 
there were no stl headers available.

Then, afaik the stl cannot be compiled with a gcc version older than 1998, 
because the compiler doesn't meet the requirements for the STL.

Btw, do you like it, from a usability point of view, or do you have a larger 
project you want to port to KDE that heavily depends on it?
