Subject: Kmidi wants access to /dev/dsp but cannot because artsd is running.

Package: kmidi
Version:  (KDE 1.93 Beta >= 20000813)
Severity: normal

This is kde-1.93.20000904.

The arts daemon launched on startup (box checked in the control panel).
Command "artsplay /opt/kde2/share/sounds/KDE_Startup.wav" works.

Kmidi first complains that it cannot access /dev/dsp
and then crashes. Here is a trace of my terminal:

[leonb@laplx gs]$ kmidi
/dev/dsp: Resource temporarily unavailable
KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = kmidi path = <unknown>
Unable to start dr. konqi
^C^C
[leonb@laplx gs]$ KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = kmidi path = <unknown>
DrKonqui starts.

Note that DrKonqui does not start right away.
I have to type CTRL-C several times in the console.
Eventually DrKonqui starts and produces the following
backtrace:

Here is a backtrace generated by DrKonqi:
