hi, folks.

i've been poking around with trying to get sound to work under kde2
with the via 82C686A codec, which is supported by linux-2.4.0 for
/dev/dsp and /dev/audio. artsd does not appear to be loading, and if
started from a console as a user i get this:

[dep@localhost dep]$ artsd
Can't open sound device -> exit

my sense is that there's probably a symlink that would do the trick;
the sound support is certainly loaded by the kernel at boot time.

so. anybody know what artsd is looking for here?

thanks.

As to the security of Unix, just consider this:
Traditionally they've used Unix to guard harems . . .
