You're asking KDE developers about the way Mandrake works ?
I think you're confusing things here. Ask cooker@linux-mandrake.com

Known bug in Mandrake's KDE, but I don't know the current status for that one.

Known bug too, but the workaround is interesting...
I wonder if this is a Mandrake only bug, or if kdmdesktop is broken
on the whole. Can anyone test this ?

Not done yet, apparently :(
(Well, you can configure colors, but not the button order)

I guess that's the "no hostname" bug, currently being worked on.
Try switching localhost and localhost.domain in /etc/hosts.
