Package : Kdelibs (arts), Kdemultimedia (arts)
Version: Kde 193
Severity: Critical

Running the arts daemon consumes all my memory forcing a hard reboot by
turning off power switch. Even when arts is running, no applications using
arts produce any sound. Arts soundserver always crashes with "bus error"
message during shutdown, but unlike the memory leak, this bug appears
harmless because process is killed with a normal X shutdown.

Workaround: Turn off soundserver from control panel, restart kde quickly,
before arts consumes all memory and makes normal shutdown impossible.

Real Solution: Revert to Kde 1.12 sound system for release 2, postpone arts
until somebody has the time to fix it, which apparently nobody does to date.

Alternate Solution: Everyone needs to replace "obsolete bus" and
"malconfigured sound drivers" with bus and sound drivers designed for arts,
so that arts will produce sound. Proof of concept is wanting; therefore
error must lie in real word which must be adjusted to prove theory correct.

Wishlist item: It would be nice to have sound for kde 2.
