This was discussed already a few times before. I think these buttons are indeed
hard to recognize. What´s ok are the buttons on the right like Play, Stop and
so on, because that are very common symbols. You have them on most real world
cd, cassette, whatever players. But all the other buttons are very uncommon and
thus hard to understand. I use the cd player only from time to time. And each
time I actively have to think what the symbols mean. Sure if you have a close
look at them you can understand what they mean but not automatically. For
instance the Exit button. At beginning I always thought the 1 and 0 right to
what´s supposed to be a switch were a little key. It just looked like that on
the first look, though it made no sense. Until one day I discovered what is
really is.

IMO kscd should have per default a KDE standards compatible layout. This means
all options should be also accessible through menu items. Only the very common
buttons like Play, Stop and so on should be displayed. Of course it could be
configurable to make it look the way it currently looks or use skins. Perhaps
it might be possible to integrate it into a common KDE media player?
