Hmm, well. I should think about this being a _bug_.

However, are there any suggestions on how the cddb, quit and random play
buttons should look like?
I didn't hear of any user having a problem recognizing for example the
random play button so far. There's a question mark (don't know what song
played next) and a small version of the usual 'play' arrow. What's the
problem with this? What does a new kscd user think the button is for?
Is it too small? Should it be text? Doesn't the tooltip tell the
truth?

You don't mention the Configure button. Are new users recognizing this
button correctly?

Please note that you have about 16x16 pixels to design the button,
preferrably in a two color format.
