I just crashed kwin, and was pleasantly surprised to see that xmessage. :) It was kind of cute in a "i'm still in development" sort of way. My guess is that kppp crashes when you close it. At least, the code which catches the signal thinks it does. It saved my butt, because I was downloading something, and I didn't click "ok" until it was done.
