you're entirely right in your praise of geoworks. i set up a smallish
business with it in 1994, even though it was on its decline even
then. did everything they need on old hardware -- including some
pretty extensive database stuff. never hiccuped. last year they got
the upgrade itch, and bought about $20,000 in new computers, and
windows, and a consultant who has to come fix it several times a
week.

one if the nifty things about is is that it did great multitasking,
and with dr-dos, it will multitask dos apps, too.

every so often i start to think how interesting it would be to make a
248-meg dos partition and install absolutely everything i was using
in about 1992, and make a 248-meg ramdrive, so at boot to copy
everything from the drive into ram, set the comspect to the ramdisk,
and realize what fast really is. geos would definitely be the front
end for such a thing. those guys could code!
