Well, but you can only define extra dirs for applnk only. Just put [Directories] dir_apps=... in your personal config :) But I'm afraid, these directories are read indepently from the $KDEDIRS prefixes, so it just adds something. But for example could a Linux distribution add the path to their generated kdelnk files that way.
