Subject: OFFTOPIC: configure vs. ./configure

I have recently upgraded to RedHat 6.0 and I am experiencing a strange thing.
When I enter "configure" I get :
bash: configure: command not found
I have to enter ./configure ( dot-slash-configure) for this to work.
Is there some other configure that I don't know about ?
The thing is little annoying.
Anybody knows what's causing this ?
Ciao
Matt
