Fresh cvsup checkout (KDE_1_1_BRANCH), in kdebase/configure.in macro 
AC_OUTPUT entry [kcontrol/themes/doc/Makefile] (around line 264): after 
the '\' is a stale tab character, resulting in the following message from 
./configure:
  creating \
  sed: can't read ./\.in: No such file or directory

If it is removed all is well.
