Å (or aa) is pronounced like "o" in German, "o" or "aw" in English, "o",
"au", or "eau" in French (at least the Norwegian "å"). (ref. "Aschehoug og
Gyldendals store norske leksikon")

Maybe, however the "å" was first used in Norway.
