Torsten Rahn wrote some stuff..

Torsten, quick q. What are you using to create the logo ?
I made my own as I didn't know at the time that there was one available.
It's made in gimp and held as .xcf. It is just lots of layers for each
section of the cog, plus the K border, fill, and antialiasing.

Of course it's not of any real use to people as it's not in a vector
format / 3d model.

However, I did manage to make a good-looking 'tilted' version -
something I haven't seen elsewhere.

The cog is thickened to a width that looks about right, and shaded
appropriately around the edge.

All the proportions are correct - I took the 'go.xpm', scaled it up,
traced it, and used that for some corner points, together with some
rotations.

If you'd like to see what the 3d version looks like and don't have your
own way of doing this, I'll send you a copy.

I sent a mail to kde-look suggesting we use this or whatever else is
available to make a default KDE background and a nice screensaver. I
don't seem to be getting any mail from kde-look though :)

Cheers,
Rik
