Yes, you are right. I should have called it pseudo transparency (as I did
inside the patch).

It is a kludge, but is it so bad? The process (kbgndwm) rendering the
background renders it to a QPixmap. The only thing I do is not only set
that to the desktop background but also save it. (This not entirely true.
For a wallpaper in Tile mode, it is not necessary to render a fullsized 
pixmap of the desktop.)
It is checked at runtime if background exports are desired so there is no
performance loss. 
With all changes, my patch adds 46 lines to bg.cpp (where the background
rendering is done) so to call this a bloat seem a bit exagerrated to me.

Can't KDE look sexy and be practical?
