While this is perhaps a bug in gcc, keep in mind optimizations are
dangerous by nature, and really are expectd to cause problems.  It's like
the guy who went to the doctor, told him that it hurt when he hit his head
againt the wall... the doctor's response, don't hit your head against the
wall.
