IMO there should be a version notice at some "prominent place" in
the Desktop environment. This will become more and more important,
especially with the upcoming KDE1.1. Personally I would like to place
a menu entry in the panel's K-Menu and/or the root-window context
menu.

Another possibility would be to place the version in the initial help page.
