Hi all,

Lately I have been thinking about sound services in KDE. There will be lots of
apps that want to use sound, while still needing to have control over what is
played.
For instance, Midi, Mod players/editors and sequencers will need to not only
PLAY a sample, but control its frq, vol, pan, and a host of other properties.

My idea would be to offer these features in a server, in a non-blocking way.
Also I would want the server to act as a virtual instrument storage.
If the sound card has memory, it would use this to play samples that are played
more often. and when the card is out of memory ( or voices ), go and mix the
rest. This requires a solid design, and so far i dont see kaudioserver do it:
it aims more at playing complete sound files than leaving the app in control.

Is any one else thinking about this? Have there been any discussions about this
before? I would like to discuss whether and how to make this work...

bye,
Fester
