I would have expected that the X11 clipboard supports multiple formats! khexdit 
tells which formats it can provide, and the requstor then tells khexdit which
format (out of these) it wants, and khexdit provides that one then.

If that's not the way it works, I propose that you place the selection on the
clipboard always as text as formatted in the khexdit window. That's the most
useful one, IMO. If you later want to provide raw data, you change khexdit such
that the user can also select data in the right column, where the unformatted
bytes appear. Then the format depends on what the user selected: text if
the selection is in the hex-view, raw data if the selection is in the right
column.
