I've been thinking about this a bit too, and miss the ability to white list 
well-known directories.  It then occurred to me to consider leveraging xdg-
user-dirs ( http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xdg-user-dirs/ ), and use 
some set of these, "Documents", "Music", "Pictures", "Videos", etc... as a 
good well-known initial set of indexable folders.
