I found that pm-utils 1.4.0 triggers that exact behaviour (or maybe there's a 
communication error between PowerDevil and pm-utils/hal). But it occasionally 
also happened without a running KDE session. I reverted to pm-utils 1.3 and 
everything was fine again.
