I've simply done make so far - no make install.

I looked around a little more.  Would my running kde installation be in 
/usr/share/kde4?  /usr/share/kde3 seems to have some 93 MB worth of files.

And just looked at /use/include/KDE/.  It has many files with 3 in the 
name, but none with 4.  Wonder how I got some remnant of KDE3 on here 
(if that's indeed what this is)?  Compiling against headers in this 
directory would be, I assume, wrong.
