Reality is even worse: If you have to stick to a release cycle of a 
distribution, such fixes might take up to a year. Depending on the severity 
of the bugs bugs this are often major issues, unfortunately. This very much 
hurts KDE's image (that's what I experience here right now).

Developers should backport more. Much more.
