imho, completely :) picking the tasks missing from the scope of an application 
like skanlite and creating something that does those things will probably 
result in a much higher quality app at the end.

as a fairly regular user of skanlite (as i was with kooka before it), i can 
note that skanlite already offers most things on your list (e.g. scanner 
settings, a sharable widget for apps to use..), but what it does lack are 
things like:

* batch processing
* OCR

other things like image manipulation and probably even imagine collection 
management probably belong in a different application that can do a proper job 
of those tasks, e.g. krita or gwenview.

but a batch processing app that can then launch an image manager / manipulator 
would be really nice for those "i have 10 things to scan *sigh*" things.

one thing i wished kooka had back in the day was a light weight scripting 
language so that i could automate certain post-scanning tasks when doing 
larger batches .. would be easy with QScript today
