Hi John,
seeing your two posts, I now definitely think that this may be a Qt bug... My 
app has a similarly custom-tailored model with a proxy model; my model passes 
without hassle the modeltest too, and also similar is the rapidly changing 
data which the model has to manage. My case is an IM application. I get 
crashes on random data, but always on the same code within 
QSortFilterProxyModelPrivate. Do you also get warnings from 
QSortFilterProxyModel reporting "inconsistent changes in the source model" or 
something like that? I guess the changes shouldn't really be inconsistent 
since I don't get failed assertions.
