I have the same problem of Tomasz in Kubuntu Itrepid Ibex.= My window become blank
only with theb borders of some windows in GeForc= e FX 5200.

I want to send data of my hardware and drivers configurat= ion for the developers
and also help. Is here a default app to do that?

Thanks

For me it is definitely the former case. On Bluewhite64-current (and = probably
on plain slackware too) it used to be entirely unusable. With the new beta<= br> drivers the window rendering issues disappeared, I could use compositing effects, I could actually use the scrollbar in the folderview... but kwin w= as
chewing up 40% or more CPU in general use, and that number just kept growin= g
over time. This is on an AMD sempron 3200 with 1Gb of ram.

At this stage, I run kde4.1.1 on Bluewhite64-current using openbox as windo= w
manager, with that, it's fast and usable, but of course I lose all the<= br> advanced kwin features. Some things like virtual desktops also don't wo= rk
exactly the way KDE expects them too - virtualbox switches when you get to = the
edge of the screen - and in doing so doesn't play nice with xinerama. S= o if
you were to right-click on the taskbar entry for a window on the right-hand=
screen and select move, when you go to drag it to this screen, it ends up o= n a
different desktop.
These are not terrible problems, just minor inconveniences so for now this<= br> works better for me than kwin. I have also heard that some people are using= it
successfully using compiz rather than virtualbox but I haven't tried th= at
(compiz has always been excruciatingly unstable for me so I haven't bee= n up to
checking the latest versions yet).
Basically, even with KWIN_NVIDIA_HACK=3D1, all the NVidia settings suggesti= ons
from techbase and the latest drivers you can use KDE4.1.1 on nvidia - if yo= u
have enough CPU to waste. Kwin seems to do something that makes nvidia use = a
ton of normal CPU (which is odd, I would have expected it to be offloading<= br> almost everything to the GPU instead).
This may very well still be NVidia bugs, or it may be something in kwin tha= t
should be handled differently.
On various other systems without nvidia drivers however, kwin performs
beautifully, I have even done kwin-effects using XRender on an FBDev driver= and
it worked okay (provided of course the CPU was quite powerful since that me= ans
doing effects with no GPU involvement whatsoever) - but kwin+nvidia remains=
just about the single worst performing setup you can get for KDE.

I'm mostly giving this information in the hopes of helping to track dow= n the
problem - if it is with nvidia, it may help somebody know what to report to=
them, if there is a setting that will remove the problem, maybe somebody ca= n
tell me what it is. Just to make sure I'm clear, the CPU problem persis= ts with
or without effects, effects in OpenGL mode with all the "fastest"= options
selected doesn't seem to affect the CPU usage, so I believe they are in= fact
rendered by the GPU.

Ciao
A.J.
