Request for discussion, please?

I'm concerned that the more new users try to help themselves by google
searching, the more they will find web pages that are hopelessly out of date,
and apparently forgotten by the teams that originated them. One example
says:

There is no way to ...... in KDE 2.0., but this has been done in CVS (will be
in KDE 2.1)

(info removed as I don't want to point a finger at anyone in particular). I
also know that in many cases the original creator of the page will no longer
be around.

I did come across another page where I queried it with the application
maintainer, and he didn't know the page existed. I'm betting that there are
more like that.

The only thing that I can think of is that development teams should try a
search for their own application and see if any rogue pages turn up.

What can be done about it if these are found? I don't know whether they can
be removed, or whether they can be set to re-direct to current web pages. I
think that might be best if it is practicable.

I'd like to hear your thoughts, please :-)
