That's the point.  Tomorrow I plan to rephrase the issue and do some analysis 
what Qt4 actually does.  

My guess it that it allways activates autohint if rgba mode is set to rgb (or 
bgr).

I will post the results here and dependending on your response do a bug report 
at trolltech.
