A while ago, I reported this issue -- that was before the CPU supply on 
my old motherboard died.

I picked up a 1.1 GHZ Athlon MotherBoard cheep till I upgrade to 
something better.

The problem had gotten worse not better.  I was unable to determine the 
exact cause -- well I determined it but don't know exactly what it was.

The problem appears to have been a configuration issue.  I removed a 
bunch of files in $HOME/.kde/share (those with "plug" in the name :-)) 
and the problem has gone away.  Even if I had found the exact problem, I 
wouldn't have know how it got that way.

Something to remember if someone complains that their system is slow.
